DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: Uma Wang
Posted by Robyn Burnaford on
Known for "her innovative use of texture and draping, beautiful tailoring and meticulous detailing," we're excited to share our latest designer, Uma Wang, in the Designer Spotlight with you! Uma launched her label under her own name in 2009 and has done it all from runway collections to opening her own boutique since. She trained at the Chinese Textile University in Shanghai and Central Saint Martins in London, and "her signature technique fuses knits with fabric, balancing sophistication with a timeless design." Anyone that knows us knows we can't get enough of a beautifully draped silhouette (seriously, who can't?!), and we can't decide on...

Ever since we created our Diversity in Design Style Board series, we've been excited to discover so many new female designers and share them with you! This week's Designer Spotlight features Yuhan Wang, a London-based womenswear designer and brand launched in 2018 by it's namesake. Formally trained with a Bachelor's and Masters degree in womenswear, she has worked for Marni, showcased three collections and been in contention for the prestigious LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. With a self-described rebellious aesthetic, Who What Wear has described the line as modern Marie Antoinette gone weird (in a good way). Yuhan's designs...

Perhaps our favorite discovery was when we discovered that,...
DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: Sandy Liang

As soon as we discovered Sandy Liang's collection when we were curating our Diversity in Design StyleBoard series, we were immediately inspired by the fact that she cast her own grandmother in her lookbook for one of her collections. Connection to family has always been important to us as well, and we love that Sandy brought that personal connection into her collection. Born in the US and inspired by her Chinese roots, Sandy launched her brand doing her photo shoots in NYC's Chinatown. Her aesthetic includes asymmetrical silhouettes and tomboyish looks, and with a background in architecture, she has said that "fashion, compared to architecture,...

Widely known as China's most renowned couturier, Guo Pei "has been dressing distinguished ladies, royalty and political elite who turn to her for show-stopping, magnificent creations when they want to look beautiful and stand out from the crowd." When we created our Style Board: Diversity in Design series, we knew from the beginning that we wanted feature Guo in our roundup of inspiring designers. We're in awe of the intricate embroidery and painting details she incorporates into her designs and are beyond obsessed by the way she incorporates traditional Chinese craftsmanship with modern design. From being featured everywhere from the red carpet {think Rihanna at the...
