Ever since we created our Diversity in Design Style Board series, we've been excited to discover so many new female designers and share them with you! This week's Designer Spotlight features Yuhan Wang, a London-based womenswear designer and brand launched in 2018 by it's namesake. Formally trained with a Bachelor's and Masters degree in womenswear, she has worked for Marni, showcased three collections and been in contention for the prestigious LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers.
With a self-described rebellious aesthetic, Who What Wear has described the line as modern Marie Antoinette gone weird (in a good way). Yuhan's designs are inspired by traditional Chinese ideas of femininity and its connection to Western culture and she designs for women "with the philosophy prettiness can be accretive and inspiring, and softness can empower" - an idea that we love! She has "mastered the use of silky floral fabrics, playing with proportion and layering that has become her signature style," something that has gained the attention of the press and buyers alike in her short time since launching the brand.
We know her unique aesthetic will take her from emerging designer to household name in no time, and we've had so much fun exploring her collections, we wanted to share our favorite pieces with you here on the blog! Among our favorites? We were in love with everything about this photo shoot from her Spring/Summer 2020 Collection, but our favorite piece may have been this fern green and baby pink see-through lace-like dress. We're also in love with pieces from every one of her collections since she launched, including a black and white silk jacket with ruffles and an embroidered digi-floral effect, an expertly tiered and draped floral-trimmed sheer white dress, a perfectly asymmetrical yet intentional gathered sky blue silk dress complete with silk ruby slippers and a head-to-toe mixed floral print coat and jumpsuit combo. But, our favorite piece might be a forest green and baby pink floral dress layered over a pink high neck silk gown - a work of pure perfection!
