"Elegance formed in joy."
When we discovered Johanna Oritz's collection, we immediately loved the way she described her aesthetic as "elegance formed in joy," with her designs striking the most beautiful balance between the two. We've been fans of her collection ever since we featured her look in our Diversity in Design Style Board series, and are in love her feminine and structural silhouettes.
Johanna founded her namesake collection in 2003 in Cali, Colombia, and she "draws from the power of the feminine - the allure of complexity, the mark of individuality, and a celebration of the exquisite." We love that Johanna's collections come from locally sourced materials as well as using local artisans to handcraft her stunning designs and "collaborations that add to the Andean tradition for handcrafted beauty. Artisanal knowledge, local materials and inherited traditions create native splendor. The objects themselves tell the story; and her “Made with Love” labels honor each piece’s provenance with the name of the talented artisan who made it with care"
Our favorite looks from her Spring 2021 Ready to Wear collection include large scale graphic florals, a stunning look that combines the most perfect pleats, embroidery and a ruffled neckline and the one shoulder puff sleeve tired gown of our dreams.
We're also scouring her website and creating a wishlist of our dream wardrobe featuring this sculptural rosette sleeveless top, this dreamy tied swimsuit and this stunning asymmetrical printed gown. We're officially obsessed, and we simply can't wait to see what Johanna creates next!
