DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: Claudia Li

Posted by Robyn Burnaford on

We discovered Claudia Li's stunning work when putting together the Diversity in Design Series of our Style Board inspiration, and we were immediately drawn to her prints and textiles.  After learning about the handmade element to her collections {something we deeply value in every viv&ingrid collection we design}, we were immediately obsessed!

Featured as one of Forbes 30 Under 30 in the Art & Style category, Claudia launched her line in 2015.  She was "born in China and raised in New Zealand and Singapore, she studied in London and worked in London designing for J.W. Anderson, before coming to New York and earning a Master's degree at Parsons. She incorporates hand-woven fabric and embroidery into her clothing."

After reading a recent interview with Claudia and Phillip Lim in Teen Vogue, we were inspired by how she spoke about being an Asian designer in the fashion world, and one of our favorite quotes comes from how she spoke about getting her start, and her mindset now:

"I've started really set my own rules and not really try to breakout of the part where you're thinking, oh, should I do this or can I do this? Yes you can do it. Why? Why not?"

OUR PICKS:

We can't get enough of Claudia's Fall/Winter 2020 collection, and are constantly daydreaming of the oversized bows, statement coats and insanely beautiful textiles.  Consider us fans for life!
