DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: Aliya Wanek

Posted by Robyn Burnaford on

We recently discovered Aliya Wanek's women's and childrenswear line while searching for local, San Francisco Bay Area sustainable designers, and it's safe to say we were instantly obsessed!  Launched in 2016, Aliya continues to work with Bay Area contractors to make her environmentally friendly garments (when not making them herself!), both things very near and dear to our own hearts.  After scouring her website and adding *many* pieces to our cart, our current favorites include her organic hemp and cotton dresses, minimal, jewel-toned drop crotch pants and comfy-cool loungewear.  We're dreaming of wearing these in the transition from summer to fall, and all season long!

Aliya studied at Apparel Arts School in Oakland, California and currently designs for “The customer who wants to support local, sustainable brands and women of color,” she recently said in Oakland Magazine.  “I’m big on wanting to have a color palette that embraces and enhances people of color’s skin tone,” she said. “As a black woman, there’s a therapeutic aspect that all colors have a way of altering your mood or make you feel protected or calm and that’s something that’s really important to me.”

Our Picks:  We're currently obsessing over the Fuchsia Hiroko Pants and imagine wearing them to a socially distanced happy hour with our bestie, with a classic pair of metallic gold hoops and fall-ready bootie.  Shop Aliya's site here!
